ENDANGERED SPECIES

Snow Leopard

Some species disappear quietly, almost unnoticed. The Snow Leopard reminds us how fragile life becomes when ecosystems are pushed beyond their limits.

Panthera uncia

Population 4,000–6,500
Status Vulnerable

The snow leopard is one of the most elusive predators in the world. Living among the high mountains of Central and South Asia, it inhabits some of the most remote and rugged landscapes on Earth.

Its thick fur, powerful limbs, and exceptionally long tail help it survive freezing temperatures and navigate steep rocky terrain. Snow leopards are perfectly adapted to life at high altitude.

Although rarely seen, these predators play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance throughout mountain ecosystems by regulating populations of wild herbivores.

Habitat loss, climate change, poaching, and conflicts with livestock farmers continue to threaten snow leopard populations across their range.

Protecting snow leopards helps preserve entire mountain ecosystems and the biodiversity that depends upon them.

WHY IT MATTERS

Extinction is permanent.

Every endangered species is part of a much larger story. They regulate ecosystems, support biodiversity, and help maintain the balance of life. Protecting them means protecting the future of our planet.
